IIBA: International Institute of Business Analysis

The IIBA is an independent, not-for-profit professional association for business analysis professionals.

IIBA was created in 2003 in Toronto by 28 founding members, representing 21 organizations in eight countries. The constitution amendments were voted on and accepted, and members of the board of directors were elected in April 2005.

IIBA International Institute of Business AnalysisThe IIBA is currently organized into eight committees: Board of Directors, Communications & Marketing, Special Events, Governance, Member Services, Education & Certification, Body of Knowledge and Corporate Sponsorship.

The mission of the IIBA is the following:

  • Develop and maintain international standards for the practice and certification of business analysis
  • Defend the recognition of certified business analysts
  • Accredit business analysis training bodies
  • Hold certification exams
  • Main discipline among Institute members
  • Provide a forum and communications tools for knowledge-sharing among business analysis professionals

The IIBA has about 6,000 members. Eleven chapters were created in Canada: Calgary, AB; Edmonton, AB; Fredericton, NB; Halifax, NS; Montreal, QC; Ottawa-Outaouais, ON; South Saskatchewan, SA; Toronto, ON; Victoria, BC; Vancouver, BC; Waterloo-Wellington, ON; and Winnipeg, MB.

The BABOK, or Business Analysis Body of Knowledge, was published in November 2006, and can be downloaded from the IIBA site at http://download.theiiba.org/default.asp?fileid=26&categoryid=3.
